Why I Am Running

Welcome to my website, and thank you for visiting

I had the privilege of serving the residents of Ward 23 as an assistant to the late Councillor Cynthia Lai until her passing in 2022.

When I left City Hall, I assumed life would become a little quieter.

Instead, my phone seemed to ring even more often.

Residents continued to call about City services, neighbourhood concerns, and community issues. They knew I would answer, listen, and do everything I could to help.

Over the past eight years, I have walked every street in Scarborough North—all 300-plus of them—meeting thousands of residents, hearing their stories, and understanding the challenges they face every day.

I have also helped organize cleanups in every park across the ward.

Some residents even jokingly call me the "unofficial councillor."  To me, that is one of the greatest compliments I could receive.  It means they know I will listen, follow through, and always be there when they need help.

Before entering public service, I was a teacher of history and economics and later founded and successfully operated my own business. Those experiences taught me how to solve problems, manage resources responsibly, and make practical decisions that improve people's lives.

These years of service have shown me how City Hall works, how to bring people together, and how to turn good ideas into real results.

But there is still so much more to do.

Over the years, many residents have encouraged me to run for City Council because they believe I can carry on Cynthia’s legacy and make an even greater difference.

Imagine what we could accomplish together if I had the opportunity to serve you as your City Councillor.

That is why I am running—Ward 23 deserves a councillor who is accessible, responsive, and never forgets that public office is about serving people.

Q&A

Q1. How long have you served Scarborough North?

I have served the community for over eight years.

Q2.What do you mainly do for residents?

I've helped residents report City issues, access City services, connect with the right departments, and find community resources. My goal is simple—to listen, respond, and help get things done.

Q3.How do we know you've really served the community?

Over the past eight years, I've walked every street in Ward 23—more than 300 of them—meeting thousands of residents and helping solve everyday problems. Many residents have seen my work firsthand, and much of it has been documented on social media.

Q4. If you're elected, would you stay as our City Councillor, or would you eventually run for provincial or federal office?

My commitment is to serve Scarborough North as your City Councillor. I'm running because I care about this community and want to solve local problems. That's where I want to make a difference.

Q5 What makes you different from other candidates?

I've spent more than eight years serving this community before ever asking for a vote. I've walked every street in Ward 23, helped thousands of residents, and built relationships across every neighbourhood. My campaign is built on service, not promises.

Meet Kevin Li

From New Zealand to Canada, my journey has given me a deep appreciation for diverse communities and the opportunities this country provides.

My experience in education, business, media, finance, and public service has taught me how to connect with people and understand the challenges they face every day.

Over the years, I have proudly supported local non-profit organizations and seniors’ services, including Mon Sheong and Yee Hong. I was a sub committee member of Mon Sheong Foundation and currently serve as an advisor to Scarborough Ontario Health Team(former SHN).

As your voice, I will work hard to make sure residents are heard and that our community has a strong voice at City Hall.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in science and Master’s degree in Business and Management (Economics).

I live with my wife, our two children, and our dog and cat.

Timely Action Saves a Life — Kevin Li Responds to a Community Emergency

On the morning of July 30, a concerning situation unfolded in the Scarborough North community—one that ultimately demonstrated the importance of neighbours looking out for one another.

A 90-year-old senior living alone had not answered phone calls or been seen for two days, leaving his neighbour, Maggie, deeply concerned for his well-being. However, Maggie had to leave for work that morning and was unable to check on him herself.

Although Maggie had never met Kevin Li in person, she knew of his longstanding involvement in the community and his work helping residents with a wide range of issues. Concerned that something might be wrong, she reached out to Kevin and asked if he could check on her elderly neighbour.

Kevin immediately went to the senior’s home. He rang the doorbell and knocked repeatedly, while also trying to reach the resident by phone. When there was still no response, Kevin checked around the front and back of the property, as well as the mailbox and garbage bins, looking for any indication that the resident might simply be away.

Finding no such signs and recognizing that the situation could be serious, Kevin decided not to wait. He immediately called 911 and requested a wellness check to make sure the senior was safe.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene. Firefighters entered the home and found the senior lying unconscious on the floor, unable to move and in critical condition. Fortunately, he was still breathing. Paramedics then transported him to hospital for emergency medical treatment.

This incident is an important reminder that seniors living alone can be among the most vulnerable members of our community. A phone call, a friendly check-in, a knock on the door—or a timely call to 911—can sometimes make the difference between life and death.

Looking out for one another is how we build a safer, stronger, and more caring community.
